The European Union could “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it calls “unwarranted” travel bans imposed by the US on five European individuals working on fighting digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.

European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Intimidation’

European leaders such as the French president charged Washington of “bullying and threats”, following the travel bans were placed on individuals who have been central to campaigns to introduce laws governing American tech companies.

“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have led organised efforts to coerce US companies to punish American viewpoints they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state in a social media post. “The current administration will not stand for such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”
